Choose a Program for Project 3

Due Date: March 5, 2010, 5:00pm.

The task is to identify an Ubuntu Linux program that you will use as your target in Project 3.

Your choice must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Run on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (hardy).

  2. Be installed from an Ubuntu package.

  3. Be something that you can build from its source package on your system (see right-hand column of package web page under "Ubuntu Resources".

  4. Build it with gdb debugging enabled.

  5. Be a program whose normal runtime operation can be generated (e.g., by a suite of tests supplied by the program -- under a "tests" directory in the source package enabled by 'make test').

Some packages whose programs appear to satisfy these requirements include (you can choose another): openssh server (sshd), apache2 (httpd), dbus, mysql, postgres, bind, aolserver, free radius, openafs, egroupware, konqueror.

Ubuntu packages are available here (use hardy).

Please inform me of your choice via email by 5:00pm on Fr March 5.
