In the spring of 2009, I taught the senior-level undergraduate class on computer and network security (CMPSC 4443). It was a great class with a lot of really clued in students. One day while they were waiting for me to get to class, they came up with the list of security related words that begin with each letter of the alphabet. The following is a list of these words (with some mods):
- A is for AES
- B is for Botnet
- C is for Cookie
- D is for Decrypt
- E is for Encrypt
- F is for Fidelity
- G is for Generator
- H is for Hash
- I is for Intrusion Detection
- J is for John the Ripper
- K is for Key
- L is for LOphtCrack
- M is for MAC
- N is for Nonce
- O is for Overflow
- P is for Password
- Q is for QOS
- R is for RSA
- S is for Security
- T is for Trust
- U is for User
- V is for Virus
- W is for Worm
- X is for XOR
- Y is for YU
- Z is for Zombie
Note: If you have suggestions about words that would be better alternatives for these, please email me at mcdaniel 'at' cse.psu.edu. In particular, the letters in red should be replaced with something better.
