NSF NeTS: Competition, Neutrality and Service Quality in Cellular Wireless Access

G. Kesidis (PSU PI) and S. Sarkar (U.Penn. PI)

We study different economic models of cellular wireless access with differential qualities of service/experience. The models include pricing dynamics, fair competition between like and different providers, network-neutral behaviour on the part of the ISPs, fair methods of service differentiation, and end-user behaviour. In this context, we are also are interested in the role played by emerging edge/fog computing and caching platforms (cloudlets proximal to base stations) in support of mobile devices, e.g., caching and other virtualized network functions (VNFs).
