This plugin allows you to disable TiddlyWiki's automatic ~WikiWord linking behavior, so that WikiWords embedded in tiddler content will be rendered as regular text, instead of being automatically converted to tiddler links. To create a tiddler link when automatic linking is disabled, you must enclose the link text within {{{[[...]]}}}.

You can block automatic WikiWord linking behavior for any specific tiddler by ''tagging it with<<tag excludeWikiWords>>'' (see configuration below) or, check a plugin option to disable automatic WikiWord links to non-existing tiddler titles, while still linking WikiWords that correspond to existing tiddlers titles or shadow tiddler titles. You can also block specific selected WikiWords from being automatically linked by listing them in [[DisableWikiLinksList]] (see configuration below), separated by whitespace. This tiddler is optional and, when present, causes the listed words to always be excluded, even if automatic linking of other WikiWords is being permitted.
Note: WikiWords contained in default ''shadow'' tiddlers will be automatically linked unless you select an additional checkbox option lets you disable these automatic links as well, though this is not recommended, since it can make it more difficult to access some TiddlyWiki standard default content (such as AdvancedOptions or SideBarTabs)

Yet another incidence of me feeling unsure about some basics. One day I came across a wonderful paper about an application of the mean-shift method. My colleague and I were puzzling over some Taylor expansion. I said it seems to be some sort of ~Gauss-Newton algorithm and he said the equations look like optical flow. All I remember about optical flow was to minimize $||Ax-b||^2$, which has a closed form solution. Later I vaguely recall some iterative optical flow method for sub-pixel accuracy. To straighten things out, I did some search and re-search (I always come back to [[Bob's lecture notes|http://www.cse.psu.edu/~rcollins/teaching.html]]!). So here we are - a note about optical flow and least-squares, and others.
* Brightness Constancy Assumption
Optical flow is an approximation to the motion field from time-varying image intensity. The key assumption of the basic gradient-based optical flow estimation is the //brightness constancy//

One pixel only provides one gradient constraint, which cannot solve two unknowns $(u, v)$. Therefore, we need to collect gradients from more pixels. In the current form, our problem only concerns linear equations, and for linear least squares, the closed form solution is $d = (A^TA)^{-1}A^Tb$. Care has to be taken with matrix inverse. If $rank(A^TA) < 2$, ie, it is rank deficient, no unique solution exists. If all nearby pixels that we collected gradients from have the same spatial direction (eg, as shown in the image below), $rank(A^TA) = 1$. This is also called the aperture problem. In the image below, when observed from the aperture, we cannot tell the left->right motion from the up->down motion.

* Aperture Problem
Actually, one gradient constraint equation only determines the norm component of the flow vector, which is perpendicular to $ \bigtriangledown I$ and its perpendicular distance from the origin is $|I_t|/||\bigtriangledown I||$. Therefore, not only left->right motion is consistent with up->down motion, when viewed from the aperture, all motion vectors that move along a line is consistent in this case, as shown in the figure below (Figure 2 in [1]). So what really matters is not how many pixels we collect gradients from but how many unique gradient directions we can get to form sufficient constraints for the flow vector.

So far I am satisfied with my review of optical flow, but still I have not met ~Gauss-Newton. I found a good explanation in [1]. Indeed ~Gauss-Newton algorithm comes to play in the iterative optical flow estimation but not merely as a refinement as I guessed. The reason is because the least square solution is an optimal solution to an //approximated// problem - we have thrown away the higher order terms in the very beginning. Only when $I(x,y)$ is linear (which would be a really boring image) can we not worry about the estimation error, which is bounded by the magnitude of the flow and the second derivative of $I$. This reveals another important assumption in the basic optical flow estimation: the small motion assumption.
The iterative estimation works by first guessing some initial flow vector $b^0$, then at each iteration, take a look at how good the current estimate is (involving some image warping) and update the estimates accordingly. The important thing is instead of minimizing over $b$, now we minimize over the residual flow $\delta b$. Therefore, Taylor expansion needs to be done at different points (details in pp.6 [1] and pp.98 [2]). Basically, we use the Gauss–Newton algorithm to solve a non-linear least squares problem because the new energy function depends on the warped image using the flow estimates.

!Installation
In addition to this plugin, you must also [[install jsMath|http://www.math.union.edu/~dpvc/jsMath/download/jsMath.html]] on the same server as your TiddlyWiki html file. If you're using TiddlyWiki without a web server, then the jsMath directory must be placed in the same location as the TiddlyWiki html file.
I also recommend modifying your StyleSheet use serif fonts that are slightly larger than normal, so that the math matches surrounding text, and \\small fonts are not unreadable (as in exponents and subscripts).
