Scheduled Downtime Monday Sept 8 9:30-10:30PM
The department of CSE will be adding a 3rd physical host to CSE’s pool of virtualized resources on Monday September 8 between 9:30 and 10:30PM. While the downtime should last no more than 15 minutes, we’re reserving an hour just to be safe. Please plan your use of CSE systems and services around this downtime window.
During the work, will will be migrating our VMWare ESX licenses off of the current hardware (2 X Sun 4200’s) to new hardware (3 X Dell 2950’s w/ 32GB each and hypervisor embedded in firmware). Doing so will require a brief downtime.
The outage will affect all core services, including but not limited to:
Email Web Home directory access Pretty much everything else you care about In summary, take a break at 9:30PM Monday to watch election coverage, Monday Night Football, or visit the Rathskeller for an hour. If all goes as planned, you’ll return to better-performing and more resilient systems. FYI, the vacated Sun 4200’s will be repurposed into classroom/teaching resources to offer more Linux availability.
