How to apply for admission to graduate school at Penn State
How to apply:
The process of applying for admission to graduate school at Penn State requires the following application materials, some of which are submitted to The Graduate School (items 1. and 2. below), and others that should be sent directly to this graduate program (items 3. through 8.):
- An official GRADUATE SCHOOL ELECTRONIC APPLICATION.
- Application fee (See graduate school website).
- Official transcripts (two (2) copies).
- Application for Visa Document (International Students Only).
- Standardized test scores (General GRE, Subject Test GRE recommended, TOEFL, and TSE). Please refer to Admissions Requirements.
- Assistantship/Fellowship application (optional) - (PDF - Fill in and Print Version), (PDF - Print Version) or (Postscript Version).
- Three letters of recommendation - (PDF - Print Version) or (Postscript Version).
- Statement of purpose.
The GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION can ONLY be submitted as follows:
- Electronic Application - This format is the ONLY way to apply. Applying electronically (online) reduces the processing time and receipt of your application is assured.

- Your canceled check serves as your receipt.
- Two official transcripts from all institutions of higher education
attended, both undergraduate and graduate.

- International applicants must submit official or attested university records, with certified translations if the records are not in English.
- Notarized copies are not sufficient.
