Wang-Chien Lee
- Director: Pervasive Data Access Group (PDA)
- Associate Professor
University Park, PA 16802
Education:
- Ph.D., Ohio State University
Biography:
Wang-Chien Lee received his B.S. in information science at the National
Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, his M.S. in computer science at Indiana
University, and his Ph.D. in computer and information science at Ohio
State University. He joined Penn State as an associate professor of
computer science and engineering in spring 2002. Prior to this, he
spent over five years as a member of the technical staff at Verizon/GTE
Laboratories, Inc.
Dr. Lee performs cross-area research in database systems,
pervasive/mobile computing, and networking, with a special interest in
spatial, temporal and multi-dimensional aspects. His work involves
development of data management techniques for supporting complex
queries in a wide spectrum of networking and mobile computing
environments (such as wireless sensor networks, peer-to-peer networks,
and wireless broadcast systems). Meanwhile, he works on information
integration/retrieval, XML, security, and object-oriented databases. He
has published more than 120 technical papers on these topics.
Dr. Lee's research has been supported by multiple NSF grants. Most of
his research result has been published in prestigious journals and
conferences in the fields of databases, mobile computing and
networking. He has been active in various IEEE/ACM conferences and has
given tutorials for major conferences on mobile databases, wireless
sensor networks, peer-to-peer computing, and location-based services.
He was the founding program co-chair of the International Conference on Mobile Data Management. He has also served as a guest editor for several journal special issues (e.g., IEEE Transactions on Computers) on mobile database related topics. He is currently serving as the program co-chair of the Second International Conference on Scalable Information Systems (Infoscale'07) and the general co-chair of the Sixth International ACM Workshop on Data Engineering for Wireless and Mobile Access (MobiDE'07).
