218 IST is the CSE Advanced Computing Lab. It houses the following resources:
  • 25 Dell Optiplex 790 Workstations hosting RedHat Linux:
    • Intel Dual Core i5 2400 Processor (3.1GHz, 6M)
    • 8GB DDR3 Non-ECC SDRAM, 1333MHz
    • P190S 19in HAS Monitor
    • 1GB AMD RADEON HD 6450 display adapter
    • 250GB 7,200 RPM 3.5" SATA, 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive with 8MB Cache
    • HP LaserJet 9050 dtn high speed laser printer 
  • 8 Dell Precision T7500 Workstations hosting RedHat Linux:
    • Quad Core Intel Xeon Processor E5603, 1.6GHz, 4M L3, 4.8GT/s, FPWS T7500
    • 4GB DDR3 ECC SDRAM, 1333MHz
    • U2211H 21.5" Flat Panel Display
    • 256MB PCIe x16 NVIDIA NVS 295 display adapter
    • 250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ and 8MB DataBurst Cache
  • Full AV Podium and projection system, including:
    • Sun Microsystems Sun Blade 1000
    • Business-class projector
    • Combination DVD/VHS player
    • Wireless microphone
    • External VGA and 1/8" audio inputs for laptop
    • Closed Caption decoder
  • Room-length chalkboards
  • Voice over IP telephone
This facility is generally available 24 hours a day to all CSE major Undergraduate and Graduate Students. However, note that specific courses may reserve exclusive us of the facility during scheduled times.   Check with your instructor for details.  Also not posted schedules on the door and in the labs.  An active PSU ID card is required for entry at all times, and for building entry at night and on weekends.

220 IST is the CSE Windows Computing Lab. It houses the following resources (access to this lab is limited - for details see 220 Access Policy):
  • 10 Dell OptiPlex GX620s running Windows 7:
    • 3.00GHz Pentium 4 (512KB Cache) CPU
    • 800MHz FSB
    • 2GB 533MHz DDR2 memory
    • 230GB EIDE 7,200 rpm ATA/100 disk

  • 15 Dell OptiPlex GX744/745s running Windows 7:
      • 2.4GHz Pentium Core2 CPU

      • 150GB EIDE 7,200 rpm ATA/100 disk
      • RADEON X1300/X1550 Series graphics card
      • DVD +-RW drive

    • 19.0" Flat Panel display

This facility is available 24 hours a day to all students with courses assigned to this lab (check with your instructor), and all graduate students. An active PSU ID card is required for entry at all times, and for building entry at night and on weekends. It is reservable for course-related functions.

Please be considerate and do not attempt to cohabit the lab with a class.

Lab 222         

 222 IST is a teaching lab that is re-purposed on a semester basis.  Access to this lab is restricted to specific courses as determined by CSE administration and curriculum committee.



Restricted Labs


336 IST is the CSE Immersive Display Lab. It houses the following resources:
  • FakeSpace Stereo 3D Projection Display:
This facility is restricted to faculty and students working on approved projects.  To use this lab, contact helpdesk@cse.psu.edu.


116 IST is the Digital Design Lab for CMPEN 270. It houses the following resources:
  • 12 Workstations each consisting of:
    • Logic Analyzer / Windows PC
    • Oscilloscope
    • Multimeter (available as a check-out item)
    • Power supply
  • HP LaserJet 4250 printer
  • DataIO Chip Burner
This facility is available to students enrolled in CMPEN 270 (CMPEN 297B). An active PSU ID card is required for entry at all times.  It is available only during posted class and lab hours to CMPEN 270 (CMPEN 297B) students. 


117 IST is the CMPSC 483W. It houses the following resources:

  • 1 Dell OptiPlex GX270 running Windows XP Pro:
    • 3.00GHz Pentium 4 (512KB Cache) CPU
    • 800MHz FSB
    • 1GB 400MHz DDR memory
    • 80GB EIDE 7,200 rpm ATA/100 disk
    • 64MB nVidia GeForce 4MX graphics card
    • 24x DVD-CDRW combo drive
    • 19.0" Flat Panel display
  • 8 Dell OptiPlex GX280 running Windows XP Pro:
    • 3.00GHz Pentium 4 (512KB Cache) CPU
    • 800MHz FSB
    • 1GB 400MHz DDR memory
    • 80GB EIDE 7,200 rpm ATA/100 disk
    • 64MB nVidia GeForce 4MX graphics card
    • 24x DVD-CDRW combo drive
    • 19.0" Flat Panel display
  • 9 Dell Dimension 4550 Workstations running Windows XP Pro and Fedora Core 1 (CSE 497B)
    • 2GHz Pentium 4
    • 512MB memory
  • HP LaserJet 4300 printer
This facility is available 24 hours a day to students enrolled in CMPSC 483W. An active PSU ID card is required for entry at all times, and for building entry at night and on weekends.


118 IST is the CSE Hardware Design Lab. It houses the following resources:
  • 16 Dell Optiplex GX270 Workstations running Windows 2000 Pro
  • HP Logic Analyzer / Oscilloscope, Waveform Generator, and Power Supply with each workstation
  • HP LaserJet 4350 printer
This facility is available 24 hours a day to students enrolled in CMPEN 473. An active PSU ID card is required for entry at all times, and for building entry at night and on weekends.


119 IST is the CSE Senior Design Lab. It houses the following resources:
  • 24 Dell Latitude Model PP01L laptops
  • HP LaserJet 4250 printer
This facility is available 24 hours a day to students enrolled in CMPEN 482W. An active PSU ID card is required for entry at all times, and for building entry at night and on weekends.
