CPATH: CDP: Integrating Biology and Computing: Empowering Future Computer Professionals

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering maintains computer systems laboratories to provide facilities for both research and undergraduate/ graduate instruction. The labs are supported by a pair of Sun E450s, a 20- processor SPARCcenter 2000, and a 700gb Sun StorEdge array. These machines serve over 300 UltraSPARC machines. There are 120+ UltraSPARC 5s available in the CSE labs. Communication with other research facilities across the nation is maintained through the INTERNET. A dedicated high-speed connection provides access between several of the department's machines. Through these networks, convenient and fast access to the nationwide computer science research community is available. The University Park Campus is networked to the Internet through multiple OC-3 links. The proposed research will use existing computing facilities and laboratories at the Pennsylvania State University and Department of Computer Science and Engineering. This includes University Libraries, personal computers, software, and network facilities.
