Course Description:
Network and systems security is becoming one of the biggest concerns today as a result of a dramatic increase in the number and severity of security attacks. Although a tremendous amount of research effort has been made to build more secure networks and systems, the study of security (especially privacy) of emergent networks such as cellphone networks, P2P networks, sensor networks is still in the early stage. Lots of challenges as well as opportunities are ahead of us. This course aims at providing graduate students an opportunity to know the state-of-the-art of some of the hottest research topics in these emergent networks. It is also hoped that this course could initiate some research studies for those with research interests in security. A tentative outline is as follows.
Reference Books (no textbook):
Computer Security: Art and Science, Matt Bishop
Copies and links of the additional lecture slides will be provided as the course progresses
Prerequisite: Computer Networks and Operating System, or the permission of the instructor. The course might involve some programming in C or C++, students are expected to have a solid foundation in these languages.
Candidate Topics for Project: TBA
Course Format: The instructor will lecture ~50% classes, and students will present 50% (1 or 2 papers each person subject to the number of class participants).
