Database developers have a growing number of programming options for connecting their Oracle databases to the World Wide Web. One of simplest methods for developing Oracle-to-World Wide Web applications is to embed HTML mark-ups directly into Pro*languages code. Recently, developers have been given a more powerful method to develop these applications using the Oracle PL/SQL language and WebServer package. However, there is an excellent alternative to these two popular methods. An increasing number of sites have begun to develop their Web-based Oracle applications with the Perl5 programming language. While each approach has its strengths and weaknesses, Perl5 offers several advantages over the other methods and should be seriously considered for Oracle-to-World Wide Web applications.
