[A] Computational Aesthetics / Visual Quality Projects

Here you can download the dataset generated for and used in the following two papers. If you do use the dataset in your research, please reference either or both of these papers as appropriate, as well as Photo.net, the primary data source.

      1. R. Datta, J. Li, and J. Z. Wang, Learning the Consensus on Visual Quality for Next-Generation Image Management, Proc. ACM Multimedia, Augsburg, Germany, 2007. [MM 2007]
      2. R. Datta, D. Joshi, J. Li, and J. Z. Wang, Studying Aesthetics in Photographic Images Using a Computational Approach, Proc. ECCV, Graz, Austria, 2006. [ECCV 2006]

The data consists of the numerical visual features described in (2) above, for 3581 images downloaded from the Photo.net photo-sharing site, which allows users to rate each other’s photographs. Because of issues with copyright, we only provide hyperlinks to the original images, so it is straightforward to crawl them from the Photo.net Website. Please refer to the Data Description File to figure out how to get the URLs corresponding to each image. To obtain these files, right-click on them and choose "Save Link As". For the data file, you should use an unzipping utility such as gzip.

(a) Dataset - Plain text file containing 3581 rows, one per Photo.net image.
(b) Data Description File - File describing what each column means. Please refer to paper (2) above to get more technical descriptions of these features.

Note that some of the original aesthetics/originality scores may have changed since we collected the data, since the Photo.net community continues to rate these pictures.
